Guida

As passionate travelers, Sebastian Bissinger and Laure Boer (BANK™) developed a habit of collecting and studying typefaces found in road signs, train systems, and everyday wayfinding during their journeys. Their research led them to the inspiration for Guida: an Italian license plate design from the 1980s–1990s, made entirely in uppercase and numerals. The letterforms weren’t shaped by optical refinement but followed rigid, mechanical rules—resulting in quirky yet visually striking characteristics. Over time, and through use in real projects—including a series of video essays for Time Magazine—BANK™ refined and expanded Guida. The result is a typeface with added glyphs, alternates, and subtle variations, offering designers more flexibility while preserving its distinctive voice.
